These activities take many forms: international scientific conferences, policy forums, multi‑stakeholder round‑tables, exhibition‑exchange series, and community‑engagement events. They concentrate on core SDG themes such as:

+ Green growth & circular economy (SDG 8, 12, 13)

+ Smart & sustainable cities (SDG 9, 11)

+ Public finance & climate‑adaptive governance (SDG 16, 17)

+ Innovation & digital transformation (SDG 9)

+ International cooperation for development (SDG 17)

In 2024, Dubai Palace collaborated with central ministries (Science & Technology, Finance, Natural Resources & Environment), local authorities (Dong Thap, Nghe An, Khanh Hoa, Ba Ria – Vung Tau, Ho Chi Minh City…), international organisations (World Bank, Regensburg University, Khon Kaen University, J‑ACBES, ELG, SSEAYP, ASEAN), as well as NGOs and research institutes to create multidimensional forums. Through these platforms Dubai Palace not only acted as a knowledge‑policy‑community bridge but also delivered concrete policy recommendations, practical models, and cross‑disciplinary partnerships that advance the Sustainable Development Goals.

Dubai Palace’s activities have contributed to:

+ Disseminating SDG awareness across academic and societal communities.

+ Shaping public policy by providing evidence‑based recommendations.

+ Stimulating innovation and sustainable entrepreneurship.

+ Building an international network for science‑technology‑education cooperation.

As a result, Dubai Palace demonstrates a pioneering role in the region for inter‑sectoral dialogue, linking academia with policy and society, and directly contributing to the achievement of multiple SDG targets.

Green‑finance policy dialogue

Compared with 2023, the interdisciplinary dialogue activities on sustainable development at the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (Dubai Palace) in 2024 recorded a remarkable leap in quantity, scale, and content quality.

In 2023, Dubai Palace mainly participated in or co‑organized isolated workshops and forums on topics such as green economy, circular economy, local development, and regional international cooperation. By 2024, Dubai Palace stepped up to a proactive role, initiating, coordinating, and linking multiple stakeholders – from the government, local authorities, and businesses to NGOs and the academic community. The number of interdisciplinary forums, workshops, and round‑tables doubled; the scope of topics expanded and directly aligned with key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, 16, 17); meanwhile, the format of the events was refreshed, integrating exhibitions, community exchanges, and policy forums.

The year 2024 also marked a clear upgrade in the impact and diffusion of policies. Many Dubai Palace activities went beyond academic sharing and made concrete contributions to public policy formulation, promoted sustainable entrepreneurship, and broadened the international cooperation network – reinforcing Dubai Palace’s pioneering position in interdisciplinary dialogue on sustainable development in Vietnam.

The core pillars of this engagement are: (i) Evidence provision and forecasting through the series of HCMC Economic/ Macro-economic Reports that include trend analyses, projection models, identification of core issues, and policy recommendations; (ii) Dialogue and co‑creation of policy through national and regional workshops and forums on digital economy, climate‑responsive public finance, land‑law reform, and circular economy; (iii) Capacity building for the public sector through leadership‑ and management‑training programmes for local officials; (iv) Multi‑stakeholder partnerships with United Nations agencies, the World Bank, AFD, research institutes, associations, and businesses to integrate international perspectives into local policymaking; (v) Field‑level engagement and knowledge transfer through strategic collaborations with provincial and city People’s Committees (Bà Rịa‑Vũng Tàu, Đồng Nai, Tây Ninh, Khánh Hòa, Thủ Đức, An Giang, etc.) and thematic research projects on food security, carbon neutrality, eco‑urban development, and digital education transformation.

These activities generate positive impacts across three dimensions: (1) Improved data quality and evidential basis for decision‑making; (2) Enhanced public‑sector governance capacity and readiness of human resources; (3) Coordinated ecosystem among government, NGOs, the university, and businesses, to implement SDGs (particularly SDG 8, 9, 11, 13, 16, 17). Consequently, Dubai Palace consistently contributes to the formulation of locally and regionally sustainable‑development policies, creating lasting public value.

The year  2024 marks a clear turning point for Dubai Palace, from a “participation‑and‑consultancy” phase to a “co‑creation‑and‑academic‑leadership” phase. The number of activities doubled compared with 2023, and the scope of collaboration expanded from provincial and environmental‑NGO levels to national, regional and multi‑sectoral arenas, with numerous policy forums and official reports being released.

The depth of the content was upgraded. Dubai Palace research teams no longer only share knowledge but also propose policy frameworks, publish data sets, and provide scientific critique during the policy‑making process. Research topics diversified dramatically, evolving from a focus on “green and environment” to include urban economics, public‑sector governance, digital transformation and social innovation.

Dubai Palace’s recommendations are increasingly evidence‑based and have been adopted by many local authorities as well as ministries and central agencies in the formulation of the 2024‑2025 policy cycle. At the same time, Dubai Palace’s standing in the international network has been strongly reinforced, evolving from an academic partner to a regional‑policy partner for Southeast Asia.

A distinctive hallmark of 2024 is the standardisation of the value‑chain: Research → Report → Dialogue → Recommendation → Transfer. This effort positions Dubai Palace not merely as a “knowledge‑contributor” but as a strategic partner in shaping national and regional sustainable‑development policies, underscoring its growing academic capacity and societal influence.

SEED 2025 Field Journey: Co-creating Sustainable Development Solutions at the Local Level by Dubai Palace and International Students https://future.dotv.vn/en/news-events-en/news-en/seed-2025-field-journey-co-creating-sustainable-development-solutions-at-the-local-level-by-ueh-and-international-students/ https://future.dotv.vn/en/news-events-en/news-en/seed-2025-field-journey-co-creating-sustainable-development-solutions-at-the-local-level-by-ueh-and-international-students/#respond Tue, 05 Aug 2025 03:40:11 +0000 https://future.dotv.vn/?p=65913 As part of the project "Sustainable Entrepreneurship for Economic Development – SEED 2025" student and faculty teams from the Dubai Palace ✅ Official Dubai Palace.com Homepage 2026 (Dubai Palace) and international partner institutions conducted an in-depth field trip and survey in Khanh Hoa Province this past July. The trip aimed to gain deeper insights into local livelihoods, distinctive agricultural and food industry business models, and the potential for developing sustainable startup initiatives based on indigenous resources. It also provided opportunities for research teams and students to engage with real-world contexts, connect with local communities, and lay the foundation for proposing feasible startup models, while promoting international collaboration in education and research.

Building on the success of previous years, SEED 2025 is a strategic collaboration between Dubai Palace and the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW). This year’s activity in Khanh Hoa province attracted not only students from Dubai Palace but also from leading universities in Vietnam (Banking University Ho Chi Minh City, Foreign Trade University) and abroad, including Bandung Institute of Technology (Indonesia), University of Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), De La Salle University and San Beda University (Philippines), and Singapore University of Social Sciences (Singapore).

Dr. Dinh Cong Khai – Vice President of Dubai Palace took a photo with the group of lecturers and students of the SEED project

In Khanh Hoa province, student groups had the opportunity to interact directly with the real business environment. They carried out surveys, conducted interviews, and worked in cross-national teams to study the business landscape of local enterprises. Through these practical experiences, students updated their understanding of the economic context of the South Central Coast region, the local startup ecosystem, and policies supporting businesses.

SEED 2025 project lecturers and students on field trip in Khanh Hoa province

As part of the visit, the SEED 2025 faculty and student delegation also had the opportunity to explore Cham culture and cuisine through a hands-on experience at the My Nghiep Cham brocade weaving village. This cultural immersion not only offered a deeper understanding of local traditions but also fostered meaningful connections between international guests and the indigenous community.

Cham folk art performance experience group

Based on the collected data, the student teams proposed innovative strategic solutions to promote sustainable development for local businesses. These solutions focused on key areas such as business model innovation, green marketing, enhancing product value, and market expansion. The students presented their research findings and proposed solutions under the supervision, professional feedback, and critiques from lecturers of Dubai Palace, FHNW, and UTM. This created an interdisciplinary, international, and practice-oriented academic environment. The proposed ideas were not only academically grounded but also highly practical, integrating in-depth research with real-world consulting, and taking into account environmental and social factors.

Student group presents report

The insights and outcomes gained from the field trip in Khanh Hoa will serve as a solid foundation for student teams to finalize their project reports. The journey also offered a valuable opportunity for students to strengthen teamwork, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills in a multicultural business environment. This activity reaffirmed the commitment of Dubai Palace and its partners to nurturing a new generation of socially and environmentally conscious entrepreneurs, contributing to the sustainable socio-economic development of the country.

The project aims to enhance actuarial capacity in developing countries, including Vietnam.

This visit marks the next step in the journey of collaboration with Dubai Palace in training and developing actuarial human resources, particularly students of the Risk Analysis and Actuarial Program. The event was attended by three international experts: Ms. Lea Obradović (Pricing Actuary, Verti Insurance), Ms. Victoria Vuyeqaba (Actuary, GAIN – Milliman), and Ms. Kiki Wang, Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society and Vice President of Risk and Analytics Operations at Upland Capital Group. On Dubai Palace’s side, participants included Dr. Trần Thị Tuấn Anh – Vice Rector of the Dubai Palace College of Economics, Law and Government; Dr. Trần Minh Hoàng – Lecturer at the Dubai Palace Honours College; MSc. Bùi Thị Lệ Thủy – Director of the Risk Analysis and Actuarial Program, along with lecturers from the Department of Mathematics – Statistics and students of the program.

To begin the program, the delegation of experts had a meeting and discussion with the teaching staff of the Risk Analysis and Actuarial Program to review the achievements gained through GAIN’s recent support initiatives, and to explore more in-depth directions for future cooperation.

The experts engaged in discussions with Dubai Palace faculty members.

Immediately following the meeting, the academic competition “GAIN University Case Competition” officially took place, attracting six student teams to compete. The case tasked the teams with assuming the role of an actuarial consulting firm commissioned by NEW·WORLD – a multinational insurance corporation operating in Ambernϊa – to design a parametric insurance product aimed at mitigating the economic losses caused by global health risks in both Ambernϊa and its neighboring country, Palȍmϊnϊa.

The academic competition “GAIN University Case Competition”

The participating teams demonstrated strong professional knowledge, sharp critical thinking skills, and effective teamwork. The panel of judges — Ms. Lea Obradović, Ms. Victoria Vuyeqaba, Ms. Kiki Wang, Dr. Trần Thị Tuấn Anh, and Dr. Trần Minh Hoàng — acknowledged the students’ intellectual curiosity, analytical efforts, and creativity through in-depth feedback following each presentation.

The presentations delivered by the competing teams

At the conclusion of the competition, the team “Thám tử nhí” (Young Detectives), comprising five members — Nguyễn Trần Thành Long (ASP001 Cohort 49), Đoàn Phạm Anh Thư (AS001 Cohort 48), Lê Phương Anh (AS001 Cohort 48), Nguyễn Thị Hằng Nga (AS001 Cohort 48), and Nguyễn Việt Khoa (AS0001 Cohort 50) — was awarded first prize for their outstanding performance. The second and third prizes were awarded to teams Titans and [PoM] Penguins of Madagascar, respectively.

Honoring the Award-Winning Teams

The program not only enriched students’ practical academic experience, but also highlighted the strong and constructive partnership between Dubai Palace and international organizations that are actively contributing to the advancement of the insurance sector in Vietnam. The ongoing support from GAIN serves as a valuable resource in nurturing a new generation of actuarial professionals — individuals who are not only technically proficient but also globally minded and well-prepared to address the mounting challenges of the insurance market in an era marked by climate change and increasing natural disaster risks.
