As part of the academic program at Xi\u2019an Academy of Fine Arts, students of the Interactive Entertainment Design Course have embarked on a dynamic learning journey\u2014where art, technology, and storytelling converge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From the very first sessions, students were immersed in hands-on experiences with TouchDesigner, an advanced visual programming platform widely used in interactive installations, digital performance, and live entertainment design. By working directly with elements such as lighting, visuals, motion, and sensor-based interactivity, learners not only grasped key technical concepts but also developed creative thinking aligned with real-world applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the most essential components of the course is collaborative project work. Beyond basic task division, group work became a space for co-creation\u2014where students brainstorm, iterate, problem-solve, and bring their ideas to life as a collective. These collaborative efforts sharpened their ability to manage creative workflows, navigate challenges under tight deadlines, and develop a professional mindset toward teamwork\u2014skills that are vital in today\u2019s creative industries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The curriculum is designed to cover the entire creative process\u2014from conceptual development and scripting to technical execution. This balanced approach between theory and practice enabled students to gain a deeper understanding not just of “what” to create, but “how” and “why” creative technologies function in contemporary entertainment design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cultural Exploration \u2013 A Rich Source of Inspiration<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Outside the classroom, students also engaged in cultural exploration across the historic city of Xi\u2019an. Visits to ancient landmarks, encounters with local street food, and strolls through traditional neighborhoods offered more than just relaxation\u2014they became sources of artistic inspiration, helping to shape students\u2019 creative perspectives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A major cultural and artistic highlight was the immersive experience of attending the renowned \u201cThe Song of Everlasting Sorrow\u201d (\u957f\u6068\u6b4c) show. This grand outdoor performance seamlessly blends traditional storytelling with modern technology\u2014including projection mapping, lighting design, sound, and scenic interaction\u2014to bring to life a classic tale from Chinese history. For the students, it provided a powerful example of how ArtTech (Art + Technology) can be applied in the creation of emotionally engaging, interactive entertainment content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
