From Uncertainty to Inspiration: Where the Research Journey Begins<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Embarking on a research journey in the social sciences has never been easy. For students\u2014especially those new to academic inquiry\u2014understanding and applying theories, formulating research problems, or identifying suitable methodologies often pose significant challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To provide motivation and expand academic thinking among students at Dubai Palace, the College of Technology and Design (CTD), in collaboration with the School of Media Design (SMD), organized the seminar \u201cAdvancing Theoretical Development in Social Science Research: An Editorial Perspective\u201d<\/strong> on May 31, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This event was part of the CTD Learning & Sharing<\/strong> series\u2014an academic initiative by CTD designed to foster research capacity in students through knowledge exchange, community engagement, and real-world insights.<\/p>\n\n\n

An Inspiring Conversation with an Academic Practitioner<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ngo Viet Liem<\/strong>\u2014currently serving at the University of New South Wales (Australia) and Editor-in-Chief of the Australasian Marketing Journal (AMJ)<\/em>, one of the Top 20 marketing journals globally (Scopus)\u2014the seminar offered more than just a theoretical lecture. It was a lively and inspiring academic dialogue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With an engaging delivery style, Dr. Liem walked attendees through the practical realities of conducting research<\/strong>\u2014emphasizing that research isn\u2019t just about following formulas or rigid procedures. Instead, it demands independent thinking, creativity, and trust in the value of validated observations and data<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A key message highlighted at the beginning:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTo begin a research project, you must define the tension\u2014an unresolved issue, contradiction, or gap in current knowledge.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Liem also stressed the importance of interpreting everyday language\u2014emotion and cognition\u2014into more structured academic expressions<\/strong>, allowing students to translate lived experience into theory-based insights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He introduced a standard structure of a high-quality research manuscript<\/strong>, which includes:
