Some people have put in a lot of time and effort but do not get the wanted results. On the contrary, many people only take a short time communicating basic or fluent in a language. Why is there such a difference? Success or failure in developing a new language depends on how the learners identify obstacles and each person&#8217;s ability to overcome them. Her research has included language learner beliefs, learner autonomy in language learning, academic writing and doctoral education. From 2018-2020 Sara worked with Ph.D. candidates at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, in her role as Doctoral Development Coordinator.
